Here is a stairway that has taken me 17 hrs alone to frame. A few pictures of the stairs then one of how I attach all the workings to the rest of the house, with the Mike Smith finger of course.

Upgrading the footings and columns that support a girder beam is an opportunity to level out the floor above.

That winding landing reminds me of an article that Larry Haun wrote for FHB. He had a real simple way to lay out a winder and we've used it numerous times and it works fantastically. Did you use that, or how did you lay it out ?
I used the basics. It is really easy to do once you understand the basics. Another book is one by John Carroll that had a decent description in it.
Most important part of these stairs is that you have to have 6" of tread at the shortest point without the nosing.
I really just measure the stairwell opening in this case 42" add 10-1/4" then start snapping lines on the floor. Build each box on the snapped out floor plan then sheet each box with the desired nosing.
Ripping the lumber to size for finished height take a little time, but with a good worm drive and a rip fence it goes fairly quick.
I got a frame job that had six different sets of winder stairs and have gotten pretty good at them. This is the first set with a 180 degree turn. Rest of the time its just 90 degrees. Can't you hear the violin playing your song.

I thought it would be funny to put in there, I was taking these pictures and thought about some of yours that had your hand in them. Kind of made me laugh. Can't you hear the violin playing your song.

Nice shoe! and I love the coil nails. You are a man after my heart. . . uh
nice stairs too
This is the last job these shoes will see, thats the good one in the picture, the other tire is pretty much blown out and flat. I really like them, stick great to the roofs and are very comfortable. Got another pair coming in the mail.
I had to find nails in my truck at the end of the day, I thought I had run out. I found way more than I thought were in there. Probably 6 coils of each 8's and 16's.
My stairs aren't as fancy as yours, they were fun to build though. I almost had the GC talked into going with something like yours. Can't you hear the violin playing your song.
One more thing, did you ever read this article by Jed Dixon? http://www.jlconline.com/cgi-bin/jlconline.storefront/44b2f9280006325b27177f0000010542/Product/View/0504fool
Quite possibly the greatest article ever written by a human
No I hadn't read that article. I read a couple of books and figured the rest out myself. The first set I did last year took me forever. Now I can slam one out fairly quick.
This one took a while because of all the boxes I had to build. Can't you hear the violin playing your song.
