We have a 5 year old Fedders Window AC unit downstairs. It’s now beeping about once an hour. Just one beep.
I’ve maintained this fairly well, cleaning it each year inside and out, storing it in the basement in the winter.
Any idea what a single beep once an hour would mean? Is that some sort of universal AC-unit distress signal? What’s it trying to tell me?
(I can’t find the manual and it appears to be a discontinued model as I can’t find mention of it on Fedder’s web site)

This is not an informed guess..but does it have a battery? my smoke detectors beep when the battery needs replacing. I don't know why an ac would need a battery
You seem to have covered things. Ours beeps when it wants the filter cleaned. I was going to suggest that if you don't have the book, you could find the pdf version online..makbe you can wade through their tech help 800# on the phone for help, or find a dealer used to servicing them....

It might be the filter! That sounds familiar. I think our filter reminder LED might no longer work. I'll give that a shot.
Well, I cleaned the filter, hit the 'check filter' reset button, but, still beeping. Mystery.I sent an email into Fedders. No reply. Might try calling later in the week...
Try unplugging it for ten minutes. That works with a lot of new electronic things that have chips to do some thinking. It might need a nap to clear some e-cobwebs.

That is true for more than just the new electronic gizmos sometime <G>

I'm assuming you've changed the batteries in any nearby smoke detectors? It's amazing the degree to which those things can "throw their voices".

'doh! Good thought!
Well, the official response from Fedders:============
Thank you for your email.
I would like to apologize for any inconvenience this situation may have caused you.
The beeping sound may be that the control board maybe going out.

============Nice of them to tell me what the beep means. Of course, it would have been nice to also tell me what it takes to replace it, if it's under warranty, etc. But at least that's a start.Guess it's time to give the idea of an upgrade to a mini-split system a serious thought.
If it beeps when the filter needs to be cleaned/changed...where is the sensor?maybe it is dirty or stuck ....nevermind I see it is a timed reminder
