i am building a new home and the windows are allready installed. the carpenter who installed them nailed the sides and botem, and flashed with felt. i am an advocate of tar paper and thought nothing of this at the time. i latter found out that the manufacter now recomends nailing on top, (which would apply to my windows.) and discussions at the local h.d. have led me to belive that i should have used some sort of tape against the sheathing. and metal flashing above the windows. we have one layer of 30# astm over 30# astm flashing. the sideing is hardy panel stucco with corner boards and z bar. i have only sided the lee side of my house. sould i go back and flash the windward side windows with metal. it would mean pulling alot of staples, ripping tar that was carefully placed, etc. and potetialy undermine of the current seal. however, i do not know how long a tar paper sky scraper can last. in other words if the t.;p. has been keeping the rain out will it allways.
