Hello,
This is my first post (of many probably), so please be kind.
Ok. I am remodeling my kitchen & replacing the existing kitchen window with a larger size. The exterior wall was constructed with stucco on bare studs! No sheathing! There is only building paper between the studs & stucco.
From what I have read, window flashing is attached to the sheathing. So, how am I supposed to flash my replacement window?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers.

Stucco without sheathing was very common, SOP here for most of the 20th. century. It's still allowed, but after the earthquake in '94, sheathing everything has become SOP.
The important thing is to take great care in cutting and demoing the stucco where the new window will go. You don't want to damage the old building paper. You need to get the new flashing under the old paper on the top, and over it on the sides and bottom.
