Window issue – Better bilt series 3000
I am NOT a pro. Just a HO trying to rebuild a large garage/shed. I am tearing off all of the rotted siding and after repair of any rotted framing, will go back with Hardi siding directly over studs and felt (no sheathing). The windows that are original to the building appear to be the “better bilt” series 3000 that are carried by Lowes. I need to replace a window. The “match” I found at Lowes appears to have a J shape from the nailing flange and is 1.25 inches from the exterior to the flange. Can anyone tell me an easy way to trim this out? The current window (to be replaced extrudes the 1.25 inch to the exterior and wasn’t trimmed. Just raw aluminum window frame jutting out. Should I try to get a window without the “J” shape? Go vinyl instead? And, Why is there a “j” shape? It appears to just be a rain trap. Thanks.
