Everyone,
I’m constructing bench type seating along two walls of a finished basement. (A window seat without the window). On my last project, I constructed an 11 foot window seat by attaching a 2×4 ledger board along the walls and then attaching a plywood top and front. I added a poplar frame, panel molding, etc. to finish it. The top had a piano hinge so the inside could be used as storage. (This is very similar to the one built by Gary Streigler in his article). A friend of mine suggested a better way to build this project is to construct a series of plywood boxes with hinged tops and install them – much like installing a run of short base cabinets. My way seems faster and less expensive and still allows access to the floor and lower wall if necessary. (There is no floor or back to my seat) Any suggestions on which way to go would be appreciated. This is going into a TV area in a finished base ement. Finished product will be painted.
Thanks guys.

Frank,
I just posted asking about dimensions for a window seat!
Could you tell me where the article you speak of can be found?
Thank you, Walter

The boxes are better for the lumber salesman, or if you want to prefab tham at your shop and carry them over. You method works fine for you stick with it.
Have a good day
