Window Thoughts on Old Work Install
Hi folks,
My wife has been out looking for sliding glass windows. I have not taken any time to investigate the issues. She has narrowed the field down to two choices:
∙ Pella Impervia
∙ Marvin Integrity (All Ultrex series)
She is wondering if anyone has experience with these doors and any comments on them. She is wondering in particular about Pella’s decision to put the screen on the inside of the door. Does that create any issues?

I assume you mean sliding glass ("patio") doors, not windows?
20-30 years ago the screen was always on the outside. Then about 15 years ago all manufacturers seemed to change simultaneously to put it on the inside. Are you saying that it's actually a mixed bag now?
IMO, a screen is, on average, less likely to be damaged on the outside, since it's more likely that people will be near it more often if it's on the inside. But this will vary depending on the specific setup, and the set of inhabitants.
Besides, it's just morally WRONG to have the screen on the inside.
Correct. I meant "sliding glass door." In our case, the main source of screen damage would be two house dogs, who by the definition of "house dog" are on the inside. No opinion on the windows themselves?Zig
We have 33-year-old Andersen's and they're still going strong (though the rollers have been replaced once or twice). So have had no need to investigate replacements.

I think screens on the inside mean it'll be less likely to have debris blow around the track and less weathering of the rollers which make it harder to open.Don't know about the glass part. I have Pella windows and a storm door that seem fine, except the set screw on the door handle needs some locktite.---mike...
