A few years ago I bought some window upgrade kits from a local building supply (Mosers in Naperville,IL) which has since gone out of business.
These kits consisted of hardware plus vinyl channels which were used to upgrade old windows with sash pulleys without replacing the sashes. The sashes had to be trimmed 1-5/8″ in width and a pin inserted in each side. The vinyl channels were installed in the window sides. The net effect was to keep your old sashes but get rid of the pulleys and have a more weathertight seal.

The particular product I purchased was “DBRT Vinyl Tilt” from a company in Dolton, IL called Dekker-Brish Millwork which has also apparently gone out of business.

Has anyone heard of such a product? If so I would like to hear about it as I have some more windows in my house that I would like to convert. I know I could buy replacement sashes but my wife and I prefer the look of the old sashes and glass.
