Window well picture request.

Jim_Allen | Posted in General Discussion on August 22, 2008 12:45pm

A guy in Chieftalk is looking for a picture of a real life window well. You know… a roof line that comes up into a dormer window and has to have a flat plan carved into the roof.

I’m usually taking from that site and I’d like to be hero there at least once since they’ve taught me a hundred things.

Here’s the guy’s request:

window well
hello all! anybody in chiefland have a picture of a window well in a roof? by this i mean a roof plane that would run into a second floor window…..to avoid this a “window well” is cut into the roof plane to allow the window to stay in its location. typically that “well” is rubber roofed. i am looking for a real life pic.

thanks…….john

Blue, you're talking about what I call an inside-out dormer, I think. Ugliest things ever thought of, IMO. There are a couple around here but I have no pix on file.

If by chance I drive by one in the next day or two I'll snap a pic a post it for yer buds.

I think the designer was designing one and the homeowner obviously is worried about how they look. I think most are ugly but there must be some situations that would have some appeal.

There's a building with two of 'em on it right at the bottom of the mountain I live on. When I go down to the village tomorrow, I'll try to get a pic of it.

Just wait till you see it. That window well is uglier than I am.

(Hey, that didn't come out right!)

Jim, I don't have a finished one, but here's one under construction.  We call them Sugar-scoops, to differentiate them from ground-level window wells meant to bring daylight into a basement.

Sorry for the size, I don't have Irfanview on my work computer.

Thanks Mike that might be something they want...seeing the framing exposed. I can't wait to see the ugly one Dino is promising.

Sorry, Jim, I misplaced my camera for a few days. Finally found it in my tool belt. Duh...?

Thanks Dino. Those are good pictures too. They do show how ugly something can get LOL!

Mike, you can resize images with MS "Paint" that's on every Windows installation. Under the Image drop down, choose stretch/skew and then fill in the same percentage size in both boxes.

Not as easy as Irfanview but it works.

I didn't know that! Thanks for the tip!

          That photo's really getting around....

I'd like to add a disclaimer that although the company I work for built it, I neither designed it or built it myself....

Hey, if they're not impressed with that, ask 'em about girl scout cookies.View Image

LOL! I'd rather not participate in Girl Scout cookie talk if I can avoid it LOL!
