TWO WEEKS AGO I HAD A 20′ X 34′ CONCRETE FOUNDATION AND FOOTING POURED FOR MY NEW ADDITION TO MY HOME. THE WALLS ARE 8′ HIGH X 8″ WIDE REINFORCED. THE FOOTING IS TYPICAL 8″ X 16″ WITH ROD. I ALSO ADDED REINFORCING FIBER TO THE WALL MIX FOR ADDITIONAL STRENGTH. THE SLAB IS 4″ THICK, NO MESH, BUT REINFORCED FIBER ALSO ADDED WITH 2″ KEYWAY AROUND PERIMETER. I HAVE NOT YET BACKFILLED BUT HAVE COATED THE OUTSIDE WITH FOUNDATION CEMENT. MY QUESTIONS ARE: CAN I NOW LEAVE THIS FOUNDATION FOR THE WINTER THE WAY IT NOW SITS? DO I NEED TO BACKFILL BEFORE THE SNOW FLIES? MUST I CAP OFF THE FOUNDATION WITH THE FLOOR SYSTEM? PLEASE HELP! I HAVE GOTTEN VARIOUS OPINIONS ON THE SUBJECT AND NOW TIME IS RUNNING SHORT HERE IN UPSTATE NEW YORK. THANKS, JIM KAPLAN

James,
I think that you will get a response to your question if you post in the main forum rather than in the section for viewing pictures. I also must point out that text in ALL CAPS is considered shouting. I point this out as a courtesy and hope to help you in the other forum.
Here is an unrelated pic to show intent of "gallery"
*Those look more like corbels or capitals than plinths to me.
*An art critic?
*No expert but love classical architecture.
*Piffin,I checked the meaning of these terms in a "Construction Dictionary" - You are absolutely correct that they are not "plinth blocks". It seems that I have been using that term incorrectly. I appreciate the heads-up.
*Yes, a plinth lies at the base of a column or other support. a capital sets at the top. Your carvings looked like half capitals for over a pillaster (split half column) or an underhanging corbel. Incidentally, a corbel datres back to historical pagan altars and was shaped to direct the flow of blood into vessels. The icanthus leaves for decoration came later. The function is still valid in that it can direct the flow of rain-water away from the building if properly designed. The old ones knew so much that's waiting to be rediscovered. We modern technicians assume that we know it all but our arrogance masks our ignorance........
*Piffin,These are now mounted on the door casings to the Mayor's office where the casings change from 5/4 oak to 4" x 5" oak. I left the job before I could get a picture of them installed.
*Some of my best work is unphotographed that way - hurry up and leave as you finish just under the gun..
