Wood Combination Lock

doodabug | Posted in Photo Gallery on April 20, 2008 04:48am

This lock took 19 hrs. to make. Mostly White Oak. I am amazed how smooth this lock works.

I have some money in this one because I had to buy a couple forstner bits to make it. 2 1/8 and 1 7/8.

5-25-0    The shackle is cut out of a board, rounded over with router, then hand sanded until it slips in hole.

The shackel could be made stronger by cutting a slot and adding wood in the other direction (just at the fragile curved end)

    Very cool.

    How delicate is it?

Thanks, pretty rugged, but the shackle would probably snap like a wishbone.

I remember reading about wood locks in one of the Foxfire books, and thinking about making one. But they're nowhere near as complicated as that one.

Ideas are a dime a dozen. People who put them into action are priceless. [Brian Klock]

The book I bought is so well written that it made it easy to make all five.

"Making Working Wooden Locks" by Tim Detweiler.

          A great book.
