I went a little crazy with the power washer and slashed up the wood shingles on the side of the house. I could put some wood filler in there, but the shingles aren’t smooth. They have a tight pattern of little vertical grooves. What’s the best way to continue the pattern across the patch? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Have you considered replacing those damaged shingles? That would be your safest bet from the standpoint of keeping water out of your home.
