   Hey Frenchy,

   That sounds cool. But how dry are the timbers? You may need to give them some serious time before you fill the checks because they'll keep going for quite some time, especially if the joinery was done with fairly green wood.

   *Living in a white oak timberframe, the only advise I can provide it to keep the heat as low as possible during the winter until These abies dry out some....The previous owner of my place did not do this..MAJOR checking.I agree w/ MD in that you'd want to wait a while before your ready to fill anything.

   *The timbers will be between 2 to 3 years old when they are dried in. My moisture meter tells me the driest are at 12% moisture and the wettest is at 20% (right now) I expect about 18 more months before dry in. The biggest timbers are 12x12 but most are 6 inches thick. (I know the one inch per year rule, but I really don't want to wait that long). I know that checking will take place untill they are fully dried, but it will be so much easier to finish these before close in then after that I'm hoping to "get away with it".
