wood floor staircase transition at wall?

I plan on installing a hardwood floor on the 2nd story of my house. I would like to continue the hardwood floor on the stairs as well. Currently the stairs are carpeted and the staircase walls are drywall with a textured finish, as is common here in the Southwest. What is the best way to install the wood floor on the stairs to obtain a clean transition on the ends at the textured wall? Is it possible to cut the risers and treads to length and just apply a small bead of caulk at the wall? Is there any other way to trim it? I know I’ve seen staircases with a base molding applied at the wall transition to cover the board ends, but these are usually applied on a flat, un-textured wall.
Thanks,
Charles
