I’m weekend warrior who’s installing some tongue and groove 3/4in oak hardwood flooring.
My question is what type of underlayment is a good idea to place prior to installation. Home depot suggested red rosin paper. Fine home building issue #144 suggests the use of “#15 builders felt. Are these the same papers? This floor will have radiant heating tubing under it.
Any thoughts on which paper or no paper? Thanks in advance.

#15 builders Felt (the brown stuff) not to be confused with #15 roof felt.
Rosen paper is too thin and a pain to work with.

One word of caution if you plan a radient floor. Some roofing tar paper will give off a nasty smell when heated. Check with you radient heating contractor or throw a chunk of the material you plan on useing in the oven and crank it up to the temp. the floor could max. out at. Some say that the smell goes away after a while.
Just a thought, been there done it.
