We have a townhouse project we’re working on. Each unit needs a 2-hr fire separation from it’s neighbor (no sprinker system). We have the stairs running along the fire wall where technically the fire wall assembly has to run continuous.
We are using UL U334 which calls for 2×4 studs, (2) layers of 5/8″ GWB each side with 1/2″ RC-1 resilient on one side. We have had inspectors require the 2 layers of GWB run continuous past interior partitions but have never faced this scenario.
So, does anyone have a clever way of securing the stair stringers while maintaining the fire wall?
