we have wood storms but no screens. the only thing commercially available are flimsy metal made by companies such as brosco. Is there somewhere to find the equivalent of wood storms with old profiles.

The most common way to make your own parging mix is to use either Type S mortar for block or Type N for brick and add a concrete bonding additive.

I just got home from a show where they had twenty different models out on display looking good. I'll find the brochure tomorrow.
*I got a couple of combination wood storm doors a year or so ago and I thought sure they came from Brosco. With several different door models, there are in turn several models of screens available.However... these are set up completely differently from the wood combo door on my mom's house which goes back at least 30 years. Any idea how old the door is your are trying to match screens to?

*This is a perfect job for a local carpenter/woodworker..check around, there's probably guys in your area that can build exactly what you want...for a reasonable price....and he/she could probably use the work right now.

*Jim, Thanks for pointing that out. Normally it would be my first thought but labour has been in short supply here of late so I've been buying more away and just doing installations. I've built a few myself.A word of caution - your average basic four or five year carpenter probably can't handle this without a little study and reseach. It is important to do grain selection and know moisture, glues, and joinery to build doors. Screen doors can actually be harder than raised panel ones. There is less structure so the joints are important. Screen/storms often get more of a workout in a year than the main door does. (You leave the inner one open in summer and use the screen constantly and it is exposed to the elements more directly) And a regular door is 1-3/8" or 1-3/4" thick while the storm is only c1"So, it is important to pick someone who has experience with them or you might be repacing it in a year.
*I can build them for you. Screen doors, window screens, cope & stick, four square with mortise & tennon, floating tennons, whatever profiles you want, built plenty of them. Got several thousand feet of VG Fir (have to bow my head when I say that) stickered and dry just waiting. What do you need? Where're you located?
