I’m putting together a woodworking shop here in Iowa and am looking for good used woodworking equipment, such as a bandsaw, a jointer, a drill press, and a tablesaw. There must be used tools like these somewhere. Does anyone know how to find them?

Go over to Knots. They have a 'used tools for sale' folder.
*Check around for auctions. What you and I consider standard woodworking equipment is becoming antiquated with the advent of CNC equipment. I see tools like you mentioned at auction all the time. If you have access to three phase power, you can get some great deals. And thanks, Luka. I didn't know they added that folder over there. Have to check it out.
*Always Ebay but we have a recycler classifieds they have some very good deals in used tools. Check that out maybe they have something simular in your part of the country. I think they call it the nifty nickel and other names. recyclerclassifieds.com and look for power tools they also have one for machinery, check both. They update it every saturday.
*Hey Rick, Whereabouts in Iowa are you? I'm a fellow Iowegian, I might be able to help. That is, unless you're really close to me, I wouldn't want you sneaking in and grabbing some great bargain out from under me... :-)
*Checkhttp://www.tms-sales.com/Under Find Equipment....mostly industrial stuff, but some single phase. I bought a BIG ole Dewalt radial arm saw and drove 500 miles to get it.http://www.redmond-machinery.com/Big dealer of new and used equipment. *Rick, there's a guy in Houston that refurbishes and sells old (50's to 90's) woodshop equip. I dont have his #. It will be in the Tools section of the Classifieds in the Austin American Statesman, Dallas Morning News, and most probably the two Houston papers this weekend. He Has a (713) phone number. His machines are very nice and reasonable prices.
*rick,Just a thought. Call your local school board. An aquaintnence picked up a bunch of tools a few years ago when the school board closed a few shop classes and bought new equipment for others.Dave
*RickThere is a guy in Iowa that rebuilds old DeWalt radial arm saws. Sorry but his name and location slips my mind right now but if you ask around I'm sure someone on the other side of the Mississippi can guide you. I don't know if he deals in other tools or not. We did a 28' X 50' addition on a house last summer and the homeowner had one, it ran just fine.
*Rick,It is Wolfe Machinery in Johnston Iowa. It appears that they only do radial arm saws.http://www.wolfemachinery.com/
