i am considering installing a small wood stove in my basement more or less to enjoy a fire and relax, and whatever heat it gives off to help with the house is fine but mainyl for atmosphere. My question is how can i vent this….can i run the stove pipe out one of my basement windows and let it vent straight out or do i need to run it out the window and up past the roof ridge? any other tips i would appreciate

The hillbillies around here prefer the first method. Oh BTW, check with your Homeowners insurance agent first.
top of flue needs to be three feet above a ridge or two feet above any other part of the structure within ten feet of it.
and you want to use insulated class A pipe or it is likely to be too cold and form creosote, thn chimney fire, then siding fire which leads to a house fire
This is nothing to go about this casually.

No and no.
