I am doing a remodel job on a wooden sided house. The 3/4″ X 10″ lapped wooden siding on the house butts the 5/4″ window casing. A 1/2″ stop moulding is applied flat to the perimeter of the window casing making the casing 1-1/2″ thick and neatly joins with the 1-1/2″ lapped siding. My problem is that when I ordered the windows I didn’t specify an extended sill or horn at the bottom of the window unit. How can I attach another piece of wood to the existing sill so it will extend the sill horn beyond the siding, (leaving an adequate drip margin). How can I be sure that over time, water will not get into the joint and rot the frame?
