Are you talking about a 2×6 or a 2×12, a deck or a roof?

True, the white man brought great change. But the varied fruits of his civilization, though highly colored and inviting, are sickening and deadening. And if it be the part of civilization to maim, rob, and thwart, then what is progress?
I am going to venture that the man who sat on the ground in his tipi meditating on life and its meaning, accepting the kinship of all creatures, and acknowledging unity with the universe of things, was infusing into his being the true essence of civilization….

You posted this in the photo gallery. Did you mean to attach a photo so we could see what you were talking about? It sounds like you are calling for water table.

In his first interview since the stroke, Ram Dass, 66, spoke with great difficulty about how his brush with death has changed his ideas about aging, and how the recent loss of two old friends, Timothy Leary and Allen Ginsberg, has convinced him that now, more than ever, is the time to ``Be Here Now.''

This is what I had in mind. When using a water table detail at the bottom of either clapboard or shingled wall, you need a flashing. Brosco sells a wood one(left) instead of metal(left).

If you were me (sure...lol) would you use the wood or metal.
Sure seems like an area to find rotten wood drip edges down the line not to mention peeling paint if it gets painted....oh gawd, decissions, decissions.
OK, wood.
Thanks

If I were you...
I'll have to do some meditation time to get there, old boy!
But for restoring an pold place that has wood to start with, you bet I'd keep it in wood.
But I don't care for what Brosco sells now. It's just primered finger jointed pine. I'd mill somnething similar from cedar, cypress or PT. I think Mike Smith is using Primetrim for these. I mill it at about 13° s;ope which is similar to window sills.
It is the first place that paint goes off, but that's just ideal because it is down at viewing level. When you see that it needs touchup, it's time to plan on painting the whole house next year..

If you use wood, use pressure treated wood. you can buy it here in that shape. SC.
my house, when it was about 15 years old had the non treated trim piece rot (which is what most wood does). i replaced it at a lot of labor expense with PT.
I would have used metal if I knew it existed.
Piff....I think I'll just leave the drip edge off completely and just add some furring under the first course like they did back then.
Be a drip on the edge

Another way they used to do with houses of your vintage was to vary the exposure on the lower courses to gain build out and prevent rot.
Exposure of first course was 2", then 2.5" then 3", Then 3.5", up to the four inch which carried to top of wall. That was actually more common with no water table but just beginning siding at bottom of wall..

That wood drip edge looks just like the old drip edge that is on top of windows, is it the same thing? I dont think that I ever saw that profile used in that situation. Just curious.
Doug
Yes, See it used in both locations here..

Instead of using that drip edge out of wood they make it in plastic and it works well never rots and nails up with trim gun .

Was this before or after he raided the tribe of the ridge and stole his horses and killing as required?
