Sam,
I make wood storms and screens as a sideline for my cabinetmaking business. You might want to check cabinetmaking shops in your area. Also, a large lumber yard with a mill shop in my town used to make them. You might inquire at your local lumber yard. I think the wood storms and screens look a lot better than the combination units especially on older houses. But, they are a good deal more expensive even at my rather modest hourly rate and, for me, they do seem to get heavier every spring and fall.
*I think it depends on what you mean....If you mean those kind that are of a fixed height, and relatively adjustable width that you actually place in the window - your local hardware store should sell them (I know Lowes is an awful corporate giant yaddi yaddi yaddi, but I'm pretty sure they sell them too)...
*Thanks for your reply, Chip. I was trying to avoid a custom order and find a place that carries standards. Courtney, I think I know what you're talking about, unfortunately not what we had in mind.Spring is already ending down here. AC is going. I'll put off till the fall. Thanks for thinking.
*Sam,Given all of the various sizes of windows I think that it's unlikely that you will find anyone selling stock wood window screens. However, if you do, you might want to post a message here about the company. If you have central air and already have wood storms you might want to consider putting wood screens on only a couple of windows to add some fresh air. That shouldn't be very expensive. I've done that for a couple of older houses here in Michigan.
