Yes. But it depends on how you live. Wool carpets feel better and last longer, but they are not as easy wear when it comes to keeping them clean. If you have kids or pets, I'd definitely go with synthetic. There are some new Texturel synthetics that feel pretty nice, though you notice the difference if you touch them side by side. Most people don't like a color scheme or live in a house long enough for the investment in wool to be worth it for wall to wall. But as somebody who lives life indoors barefoot, I prefer wool.
I have to agree that wool is the way to go. It holds up very well and is easy to clean. I prefer flat weave sisal which i have on the second and third floor of the house (hard wood with carpets on the first). Since we have 5 teenagers the quiet and convenience of cleaning wool is worth the investment. I used the same carpet throughout both floors, rooms, halls, and stairs to unify the space. This is the second house in which I have used wheat colored wool sisal and i don't think i would ever use anything else.
Wool is definitely the top of the line......but It's kinda like buying Brown Jordan patio furniture.
After about 10 years you look at it and wish it would wear out 'cause you're sick of lookin' at it.
Thanks....good point.
In my 50-year-old house, there's still some of the original royal blue wool berber. In all but the highest traffic areas, it's held up extremely well. Too well. For the longest time, it was hard to justify replacing it, despite the color.
We're replacing the last of it this year, though. With something a little more neutral-colored, and a synthetic. Not because I didn't like the wool, but because I have 2 large dogs and teenage boys, all of which are hard on carpet.
