Hey Guys, my adult son is moving to Toronto in March, his wife is going to school for a year there. He has had construction experience with me and is a good worker when given direction. He isn’t a carpenter, but he’s a good cut man, demo, etc. Anybody up there need help ?

I think that probably wouldn't work out too well. Although he does want to own a club someday, he's having trouble figuring how to get to that point. Trying to find his way in the world.
For myself carpentry found me early in life, and I knew its what I wanted to do,(for better or worse we'll never know), He's not having as easy a time. So for now he wants to support his new (june) bride as she goes to school.
one of my best friends is from TO.
he's walking more of the straight and narrow these days as a cook and kitchen manager ... but as he's a former kickboxing champion ... he's bounced and headed security all over the city.
TO is one of my favorite cities in the world.
my "retirement plan" is to eventially find a nice little hole in the wall bar I can remodel and make our own little place. More dive bar than club though.
tell him to make his way to "The Madison" ... on the University campus.
many years ago I got to meet the owners thru my buddy ... find them some afternoon and ask about running a club. They're fantastic people ... but they'd walk him thru it as long as he's buying and tipping well!
have no idea if they still do ... but they had an apartment upstairs ... with a beer tap outta the headboard. Vey cool.

While I'm not in the consruction business, I can tell you that we haven't hit the housing recession, yet, so he still should be able to come up with short term work. Houses are still going for ridiculous prices, 400, 500 thou, even for condos. The market should be good for a couple more years yet.
Tell him to check out workopolis.com, look under trades. I just looked and there are listings, but remember, alberta is a litle too far for commuting from Toronto, so watch for the ON listings ;)
There are jobs for Hamilton, Burlington and Scarborough which all would be a reasonable commute from Toronto depending on where his wife has to live. In fact, burlington and Scarborough are fairly easy to reach by trasnt, Hamilton is little more difficult for public transit, but is only 45 min from downtown T.O. Especially since that is going away from traffic. The one in Sudbury would not be!

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll show him these posts. He's a good hardworking kid, anyone else have any ideas? His wife is up in Toronto checking out apartments this weekend, any newspapers she should get ? Thanks for the suggestions guys, Rich
Tell him to check out Mattame Homes (unsure of the spelling) A buddy of mine works for them. They are going crazy. These guys will build a two story home to finished state on the back of a trailer inside a giant warehouse. When it is done they drive the house to the site, set it on the foundation and do all the hook ups. DONE!
They have a mobile warehouse. When the subdivision is done, they tear down the warehouse and move to the new subdivision going up. It's amazing.

Doc, thanks for the info, I'll let him know.
He shouldn't have a problem finding work around here. The bulding industry around here is nuts
Where in T.O are they planning to live. I own a small company down here. I also know lots of guys looking for help. I'm in a transition from framing into remodeling. At this time I'm going to stay small, I do know people, just depends on where and when, I don't mind putting in a call. I also know someone that has lots of appts. depending on what they are looking to spend I can look into that for them also. Let me know
Nick, sorry for taking so long to reply. Yes they have an apartment lined up. I'm not certain of the area but I'll find out. Thanks, Rich
