I have a job coming up on which I have to replace the existing fascia boards. The house walls are completely done in EIFS. Although I’ll be able to do some of the work off of the roof I will have to access some of it from ladders. Not having worked with EIFS before I’m unsure as to just how fragile EIFS is. If I fasten a board to my ladder will it be suffucant to distribute the weight without damaging the EIFS? What would be the best way to approach this problem?

Bob,
Yes 99.9 percent of the time... I have specialized in inspecting eifs for about 5 years and I use a regular attachment to my ladder and wrap the ends in towells... but certainly a board will do the trick... jusst make certain when moving the ladder, you don't punch through... you may want to find a place on the exterior, say underneath the utility connection or where the ac or pipes go through the system. put a small blade into the system there and see how soft it is... there are many many different types of eifs... some with cement board !!! if you have any questions, 912-691-1400
