I was wondering what is the best way to work with Ipe in dealing with decking. Is screwing the decking onto the deck the best way or is there alternatives. I wondered if anyone has tried glueing Ipe with temporary finished nails. I look forward to hearing any responses.
Thank you
Andy

Hey guy,,dont,,glue,,any decking down,,,Finish nails even with a pinner wont fassen Ipe,,,the wood needs to move with the weather and rain, and lack of it,,,in fact the fewer fasseners you use the better,,if you are going to face screw, use an alternat pattern, two at the ends, one at the top of the next joice, one on the bottom on the next,,like that,,,John Hyatt deckmastersllc.com
2 questions with regard to the Ipe: 1) do you only use it for the decking, or also for the joists and ledgers 2) have any experience with attaching decking to 2x2's sistered to the joists, screwing through the 2x2's from the bottom into the decking from below (thereby having no screws or nails on the top surface)?
It would be way over kill to use Ipe as a frame system, one guy I talked to was going to try it because the code in his area required a calss A fire rating that Ipe has,but cca lumber will deffently do the job just fine,,deckmasters is a system you could use it is an Lshaped metal with screw holes ready for you to lean down and do some upside down screwing,,if you want that look I would deffently go to the LexAnn clips and a biskit jointerJohn Hyatt DeckMasters( no realation) deckmastersllc.com
John,
Thank you for your reply and I think that you are correct. And the idea to reduce the number of screws is fantastic.

Here's a link...to a post...that has two links...to two other ipe threads. If I recall, one of the links is on finishing ipe, the other on fastening.
