My 30 x 36 two story barn/garage, poured floor full dimensioned framed, is being converted to a woodworking shop on the first floor. The second floor of the gable roofed building will be used as an office/studio with 4 foot knee walls. I plan on heating the downstairs with a wood or pellet stove. Should I insulate the entire ceiling between the first and second floors. If so, any installation tips for installing fiberglass insulation. The ceiling will have drywall.

My thinking is that if you insulate it do it for sound rather than heat retention. Since you will be heating the whole place anyway you will need a heater for the office if you insulate the floor or not.
As far as material goes I would use fiberglass.

You don't say how you will heat the office above. You don't want vents to let the heat carry all that shop dust and noise through. If no heat supply in the upper floor, You don't want to stop heat from rising though. Noise insulation is what you need. Fibre glass claims to help with a high density product. Putting strapping to the bottom of the floor joists for hanging the rock to will significantly slow the transmission of those vibrations through the material..
