Wrap the framing for window installation
My Marvin windows and doors should be in soon. My plan is to wrap the window opening with tyvek just enough for for the installation. I wasn’t going to do the rest of the walls until I’m ready to side as I don’t want the U.V. to wear it out. I’ll also caulk the nailing strips or tabs. My question is do I need to wrap the sill with (don’t know the name of it) the material they sell to keep out aditional air and moisture.
Thanks
Roy

Tarpaper or Vycor over the sill but since the Vycor is sticky you need to do somthing to keep the bottom lap from sticking to the sheathing so you can slip under it later. Keep all laps facing downhill so water can drain and not be trapped or led in.
Try talcum powder between the surfaces, and when ready to do final, use varsol or equivilant to spray and wash away the talc for a good seal.
Just an idea. Used this method with contact glues to align stuff and use the solvent of the glue for "reactivation".
have U considered felting the whole thing...as opposed to tyvek......before the windows are in...then flashing the window when installed? How long before ya side......a papered house....cap nailed well.....will last a pretty long time....and be just ugly enough you won't put off getting around to the siding for too long. Jeff

Jeff,
The way things are going, working nights and weekends it will be a while before I side. I'm sold on Tyvek, used it for 11 years when I was in the bussiness in VT. But I don't want to leave it on over thirty days, which it will be before I side. After my house is tight I have a big garage and shop to get to the same point. So it's going to take a while.

Typar stands up to UV and the weather better and is not so damned blinding white. Price is about the same.
