Ever seen the pipe cutters that are just a little round thing, about an inch wide and about as big around as a racquetball. Man they’re handy for getting into a tight spot. No-one around here has them. Most places think I’m smoking something (we never heard of it so it must not exist). ANY idea where I can get one? The wheel just rides inside on top of a spring.

Grainger PN 3Z894 @ $7.01 cuts 1/8 to 7/8 pipe, or if that is too big, a Westward set (pn 4YR03) for $28+ has a slightly small low end cutter for up to 1/2 Cu pipe and another larger compact cutter in the set for up to 1-1/4 inch pipe.
edit PS: Only Grainger Nebraska stores listed in catalog are in Omaha and Lincoln - but likely can ship from internet.

Well, thanks, but after I got excited ( I have an account at Graingers and go there with some frequency) I picked up the catalog next to my desk and those aren't it. That's what I keep running in to. I've used one, but it wasn't mine, and he couldn't remember when or where he got it. Thing looks like a small hockey puck, takes up almost no space at all. Well, I'll keep nosing around. If I find it, I'll post it back here." The State, in choosing men to serve it, takes no notice of their opinions. If they be willing faithfully to serve it, that satisfies." - Oliver Cromwell
R,
can I call you R?
Or Plumbers had one, and it only lasted a couple of days.
They use L copper and said it might last on M for a while or for only cutting in tight spots!

Does this look like what you're looking for?

nope. Hard to visualize I guess until you've seen it. Picture a hockey puck shape. Take a slot out. Inside the slot is a wheel and a spring. The whole thing is about 2" in diameter, and completely round, save for the slot. You slip it over the pipe, the wheel retracts into the spring which applies pressure to the wheel. It's tight enough you could slip your arm up between sheets of drywall to cut off a piece of pipe in a 2x4 wall if your hand would actually fit. This is just a fishing expedition. I like the thing enough, I'd like to find one. Since my plumber is griping about not being able to find a new wheel for his, this could kill two birds with one stone. Now how many people would be happy getting a cutting wheel for a present? Ah well. I appreciate the tries here. " The State, in choosing men to serve it, takes no notice of their opinions. I've seen what U are talking about....
but my impression was they weren't near as good as the mini rigid style someone posted.
But...it's gotta be out there somewhere.

Where are you at? APR Supply is where I get em at. I've been using them for years. Been awhile since I had to buy one but they should still have them. Check any HVAC suppliers, that's who carries them around here( central PA ).Greg
Check in the current Grainger on-line catalog, the paper copy I used was 2002.
Try here in tubing cutters. Looks like what your talkin about. http://www.mcmaster.com/Men do not quit playing because they grow old; they grow old because they quit playing! Holmes Sr. Oliver Wendell
Weinsteins plumbing supply had what you want. 1-215-657-0700. they are in willowgrove, PA (north of Philadelphia)
I just picked up a replacement cutter wheel for mine at TW Smith (a local plumbing wholesale house in CA). I had forgotten who made them but it is called an "Autocut" and made by (I think) General. I can't believe I am saying this but I actually saw one in a Harbor Freight Catalog one time.
It is orange and grey, looks just like a hockey puck and is unbeatable for tight quarters. It works so good I frequently use it for all my cuts, not just those in tight quarters. For those that havent seen them they are such a pleasure to use as you just snap it around the pipe twist it two rotations and the pipe is cut. No need to tighten a thumbwheel as you circle the pipe.
Good luck, Karl
I ran out to the truck to grab the package to check the name. It is made by General Wire Spring Co. McKees Rocks, PA 15136
The package says "General Specialties Auto Cut Copper tubing cutter"
