Your advice on buying Hearing Protection – what’s best practice, best tools here?
Hello!
So I’m preparing to purchase a nail gun, the Paslode IM360Ci.
What’s the best way to protect your hearing? Any advice is appreciated!
Here are the stats: the nail gun has a dB(A) rating of 109 and I’d guess a more relevant stat of 138 dB(A) for the sound pressure level.
Probably not as high as a real gun but then it’s being fired all day long so…
I was currently running with getting some gunshot ear plugs and then covering them up with the 3M Peltor III, but is there something I should be aware of?

This is what I've used for 25 years. The best hearing protection is what you have when you need it. A pair of big muffsain your truck do you no good. I put these around my neck when I get dressed every morning, 7 days a week so I always have good hearing protection. The impact sounds from a nail gun are the worse thing you can do to your hearing so please were something. I usually lose these before I wear them out.

Convenience is a good point, I'm adding some corded earplugs to the shopping cart.
I have a Peltor Optime III earmuff which is 35 dB, when combined with 39 dB corded earplugs that should give me 40-44 dB of protection according to The Internet.
I don't know about the impulse effect from a nail gun - but this should protect me from Jill Drake

"The loudest verified scream emitted by a human measured 129 dBA, a record set by teaching assistant Jill Drake in 2000"
just do it.....
Best is the one you will consistently use. That probably depends on your personality.
My wildman personality has helped me lose much of my hearing.
