Youtube helps me repair my compressor
So my Hitachi EC-12 compressor (abt 7 yrs old) has been having issues lately. It’ll come up to pressure, then let out a bunch of air, then try to start and stall. ugh.
Well, after debating taking it to a shop, I googled EC-12 compressor repair and find on the 5th link down a Youtube video “what’s wrong with my compressor” — and this guy has EXACTLY the same problem as I do.
And in the comments, about 3 times, people say “take the 3/4 inch nut off, and trim a 16th inch off the rubber plug and reassemble” — so I did it, took about 10 minutes, and now it works just perfectly. That plug must expand a bit over time and it gets stuck, when it should be sliding freely.
This danged internet thing IS good for something now and then!

Thanks Geoff,
I have the same compressor,, bought it with three miluakee nail guns from the local tool crib,, but have had nothing but problems. The regulator on mine went 54 weeks after purchase and they charged me $45 dollars to fix it. I'll look on youtube for these obvious inclusions,, and keep my eys open at the depot,, cuz it don't matter where you by your stuff (half the time? I wish)

I'm always astounded by how often a google search results in youtube videos. I'll type something into google just to get some ideas (i.e. "how to remove a stump") and the first thing that comes up is a bunch of youtube videos. Of course on youtube most of the stump removal videos involve people tearing the axles off their trucks, so it's not exactly helpful, but entertaining nonetheless.
Mine has the same exact issue. I removed and cleaned the rubber plug and that made a big difference, but it still sometimes blows the air out right after the pump turns off.
What is the link for the youtube repair video? I cannot find it.
Here ya go:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckrwFY7N7uII think you need to actually trim a bit off the edge of the plug with a sharp utility knife. I just took small slices off half the plug and that gave it enough freedom to slide and still do its job.
