I'm afraid that even with Z-max the hangers will be corroding in ten years or less. Time will tell. How about using SS hangers and SS nails with them?
Simpson clearly says on their web page:
- HDG nails only for ZMAX hangers
- SS nails for SS hangers
Screws on hangers are an unknown quantity long-term. Nails bend when they are overloaded. Screws snap. Simpson does not endorse screws on hangers.
You can get SS nails on-line (http://www.manasquan.com, http://www.mcfeelys.com, etc).
Only rated screws for joist hangers..........and then special consideration for structural applications. Ask Simpson what is available for your situation.
A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

Screws don't belong in hangers - Use nails.
