A caulking gun can be a clumsy thing to deal with when your hands are full, especially if you’re on your way up a tall ladder. The drawing shows how I deal with the problem. I appropriate a hook from a shower curtain and thread it through one of the belt loops on my pants. Now I have a sturdy hook to run through the hole in the handle of my caulk gun. Job done, the hook goes back to its job holding up the shower curtain.

I can’t imagine trying to find the hole with that small wire with one hand. I use a belt clip tool holder from Ace; I can’t find a link, but this is basically it. It also holds two 2” screw bits, which is handy. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UCR70E/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_PF4D2FN1XSSZDWT359AK
