Today was the kick-off for Habitat for Humanity’s 2015 Home Builders Blitz in Sanford, Fla. Habitat for Humanity of Seminole County and Greater Apopka teamed up with e2 Homes to build a modest 1215-sq.-ft. home with two bedrooms and one bath during the week-long event. The soon-to-be homeowner was so excited he couldn’t sleep last night. “In 60 years, I’ve never owned my own home, and now all that has changed,” he shared as he put his hands together in thanks. It was truly a touching moment.
Rob Smith of e2 Homes has stepped up again this year to build this home while renovating another several blocks away. Rob is a young builder of custom homes with a serious interest in green building and sustainability. He grew up around Habitat build sites and, memorably, attended several Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Projects with his mother.
Rob said he participated in Home Builders Blitz last year because it was all about the challenge. It took his team eight weeks to plan for one week of building. This year, it was all about his subcontractors and their vendors, most of whom donated building materials for the event. They all told him, “Wow, you can do a lot of good in a little amount of time. We loved it, and our vendors loved it–we’re all in for next year.” Hearing that was music to my ears. As you can see, together as builders, renovators, subcontractors, and suppliers we can all make Home Builders Blitz rock.
