The first step in this project began when our gentleman client met and fell in love with a Japanese businesswoman. When they decided to create their master bath, they combined two adjacent baths with an outdoor covered patio. The goal was to create one large His & Hers bath that would feel open, yet lend itself to privacy as needed.
In true Japanese form, the “outdoor” area was designated for a soaking tub and an open shower. This space has a window wall that is open to a private garden space. A special dressing area can be made private or remain open by virtue of handmade sliding teak shogi panels. Walls were removed, spaces were combined and a window wall created to allow for natural light and a seamless connection to the landscape. Its simple color palette makes the space feel spacious yet serene and cozy.
