Tips for Setting Up a Cutting Station for Wall Framing
Find out what key features you should include on your job-site to make framing progress more efficiently.
As part of the Master Carpenter video series, Fine Homebuilding spent time with Massachusetts framer Mike Norton to find out his tricks and techniques for layout and assembly of walls. One of the elements of his production is to establish a cut station. To keep the project efficient and moving along, Mike assigns one guy to cut parts and feeds them to the rest of the crew who are assembling the walls.
There are a few key features of an efficient cut station, which include a long saw table with storage and stop blocks that make repeatable cuts easy and accurate. Another critical item is an accurate cut list of the framing components, their lengths and number, that need to be cut.
Watch the rest of this video series, Fast and Accurate Wall Framing, where you’ll learn some of Mike’s time-saving methods of establishing square and parallel plates, tricks for stud layout, great techniques for faster production framing, and how to raise and straighten out walls.
