Installing Semicustom Cabinets: Hang the Upper Cabinets
Carpenter Isaak Mester shares techniques for simplifying the alignment of upper cabinets and assembling a three-piece crown molding.
Once the lower cabinets were in place, Isaak could install the uppers. As before, he based the layout from the corner and worked outwards.
Even with an extra set of hands, holding a heavy cabinet to the layout line and screwing it into place is hard work.
In this episode, you’ll see Isaak’s use of a temporary ledger that makes installation much easier. This same ledger also is a great way of transferring the screw locations to the inside of the cabinet. He also gives a quick run-down of his crown-molding installation.

We use washer head torx head screws to attach the cabinets to the walls. Our supplier has the heads colored to match the inside of the cabinets. They also provide color matched screws to attach the stiles of the cabinets together.
