How to Back-Brush While Spray-Painting Siding
Jon Tobey demonstrates how to combine spray-painting with back-brushing to get maximum coverage, superior bonding, and the best aesthetic value on your wood-siding paint job.
Spraying and rolling are efficient ways to get paint onto an exterior surface, but they aren’t the best way to work the paint into porous siding and they can leave excessive amounts of paints in corners and other recesses. To ensure penetration and achieve an even film thickness you have to back-brush.

I know that it is one more pass per board, but don't forget the bottom edge of the siding. Often the bottom is the most prone to peeling on rough sawn siding as it is smooth and the sprayer will put a very light coating on the bottom edge.
