Working with PVC Trim
Watch some tips on handling and installing flexible PVC trim.
Episode 2: Although PVC trim is weatherproof, it’s plasticity makes it harder to work with, especially if you’re used to working with wood. Not only is the material floppy, but it will mimic every bump and ripple in the framing, so it’s crucial to take the time to assure that the framing is straight.
The other tricky aspect of PVC is its smooth finish. PVC rips, routs, and mills smoothly, but the resulting exposed surfaces don’t have the same finish as the factory faces and edges which can cause the edges to stain and attract mold.
When it comes to fastening the PVC, Spier has found that using a combination of pneumatic nails and cortex screws with plugs works best.
