Installing PVC Trim on Soffits
John Spier shares tricks for cutting and fitting soffit joints that minimize measuring.
Episode 3: Roof trim consists of two main components, soffits and fascias. Soffits are generally installed first so that they yield a nice straight line to attach the fascia to.
Spier then offers up his best tricks for cutting and fitting soffit joints that minimize measuring.
Another consideration for the soffits is that they should be given a little room to vent and drain. Spier leaves a small gap against the sheathing for ventilation and uses butt joints without glue at key locations to allow for drainage.
While he’s working, he keeps careful stock of the pieces he’s cut and their cutoffs. Trying to only use factory edges and to stagger joints for a nice, seamless look.
