I bought a 1916 bungalow with much of the old woodwork intact, but an atrocious kitchen. With short money and a lot of ingenuity I gave it a whole new look. I replaced the bottom cabinets with stock units, then trimmed the original flat wood doors on the upper cabinets to match. Old fake “tile” on the lower walls I rag painted to give depth and to pull in colors from the floor (which wasn’t in the budget to replace.) Now people walk in to the room and “Ooooh, I love this kitchen!” It is not fancy but it speaks of family, Grandma, sunshine and old-fashion warmth.

You really got my attention when you said, "[I] then trimmed the original flat wood doors on the upper cabinets to match."
