This was a 1950’s house we purchased alittle over a year ago. My wife looked at this house due to its location(nice compromise of space and proximity to city) She visited it 3 times before i saw it and thought it had “promise”, and in her words “..a little bit of a fixer-upper”.
Needless to say,. we have stripped the house completely outside and are now on the inside.
- New roofing with modified structure (there were 5 layers of Shingles when we stripped it, 42 squares per layer)
- All New windows, doors
- 10″ Redwood Lap Siding (we found this covered by vinyl siding
- Complete insulation of walls (there was none !)
- New kitchen(appliances, cabinets, countertops, lighting, heated floors)
- 14- 12-yd rolloff dumpsters later !!
As you can see we still have some details to wrap up,. trim, etc.. but we’re makign progress.
It is certainly a labor of love and patience,. not to mention CASH!,.. otherwise we would have lost our minds a long time ago.
We’re doing all the work ourselves, but have surcome to accepting help a couples times (tile and stone work outside), but in hindsight i think we could have done just as well ourseleves, since I tend to be finicky about the quality of work we find acceptable.
Landscaping is next, as well as an expansion planned for our master bath, walk-in. Why stop now,. people think we’re nuts already,. but we LOVE our New house !!
Thanks for the therapy of letting us share ! 😉
