This kitchen is in a 2 family house that was a neglected rental property for many years. It was in really poor shape. I gutted as litlle as possible and did all the work my self including the counter fabrication and plastering the walls to achieve an historic feel. The result is an elegant and classic yet simple up-dated kitchen.

In the basement I could see framing for a fireplace above. When I gutted part of the kitchen area I discovered it. I constructed a mantle out of plywood and trimmed it with glass bead, the top piece is a salvaged piece from the 1850's.

I did not gut this wall. Although I removed the cabinet doors and painted the cabinets. It would have been less involved to remove the cabinets and re-build plywood carcasses and trim.

I installed and fabricted the soapstone counter. The existing cabinets were painted.

I handcrafted and built the island from plywood and finished it with a cherry tinted stain.
