This new kitchen island replaced a perpendicular peninsula that closed the kitchen off from the adjacent living areas. By rotating the island orientation, we were able to open up and unify the spaces with long, unobstructed sight lines and effortless traffic flow between the living, kitchen and dining areas. In the progress picture you will notice we were able to retain much of the existing tile floor and purchase replacement tiles to infill the areas of construction. This 2-tiered island houses the sink, dishwasher and microwave.
Doors, drawers and finished panels are sustainably harvested clear alder with an autumn stain and mocha glaze. Cabinet boxes are formaldehyde free melamine. All components are finished with a water-based low VOC finish. Counter is granite.
