This kitchen hosts two islands. One is a working island that houses the microwave, oversized drawers for pots and pans, and extra storage. It also has a slightly higher curved bar to delineate the open kitchen from the rest of the house. The white birch cabinets are topped with absolute black granite. The curved bar is topped with a solid cherry counter and paneled in the same white birch as the cabinets.
The second island sits not too far from the first but serves a very different purpose. It is simply a table top resting on the supporting column required in this open plan. It acts as the family’s informal dining. The top is cherry to accent the adjacent island. It is a unique piece of art in the center of this modern home.
