I own a 55 yr old home that I am in the process of renovating. There was a hideous plywood and black tile electric fireplace here to begin with that just taking up space and maing the room feel akward. I found some nice pictures of some craftsman fireplaces which I adapted to the space. This was my first attempt at a built in since I am “week-end warrior” and I am very pleased with how it turned out.
I paid someone to put in the gas and fireplace insert and then I built the surround and did all the wiring for the TV and entertainment equipment. The cabinets were purchased, then I stripped them down and sprayed them to match and then trimmed them down to fit in.
I tiled the surround with a beautiful glass/smoked glass/limestone mosaic. This involved cutiting out the floor so the tile would sit flush. I topped it off with a simple but beautiful maple mantle finished with a simple dark brown shoe polish, buffed to a glass-like finish.
Hope you enjoy it as much as we do,
Adam

Very nice, I have a similar space in my 1912 house, I really like the panel design on the fireplace. I just put up wainscoting much like it so it would tie in nicely. Great job, where did you find the cabinets?
