This is part of a larger lower-level remodeling project for a family that wanted a Colorado ski lodge vibe. The project makes extensive use of reclaimed barn board fabricating the trim, doors, wainscoting, and cabinetry. The cabinetmaker had to park many of his fine woodworking skills at the door to make the cabinets as rustic as possible. Instructed to overlook saw marks on the edges and faces of the doors and frames, it was hard for him not to correct these imperfections which held so much of the charm and character of the project. Knots, nail holes and even bullet holes were intentionally showcased. All sawn edges were planed with a shaky hand to add to the rustic feel of the project. The kitchenette provides a nice place to get a snack without the space taken up by a full-sized bar or the negative image associated with one. The homeowners were blown away with the finished product. Every time they go to their lower level they are transported back to their favorite ski lodge.
