I’ve never liked the tacked on look of conventional aluminum gutters and down spouts. So while I was designing my new house I came up with a trim system to hide all the Hardware. The system has 2 main components.
1) We added an extension extending beyond the roof edge to create a tray for the gutter, essentially creating a second fascia.
2) The overhang support (scupper) was needed to cover the angled drain pipe to the down spout that we hid within the stucco columns. These units where prefabricated and pre-painted off site, using custom CNC Machined High density foam sign board, Sheet copper center inserts and a wooden frame. Only the scuppers on the corners actually house downspouts, the rest are purely aesthetic.
We finished them off end caps and old blue-green glass Edison telephone pole insulators bought on Ebay.
Even though the system more decorative than structural, it give the effect of solidity. Like claws reaching up from below to grab and hold onto the roof.
Note:Unlike my original concept that used bent sheet aluminum and pvc, final construction used conventional preformed gutters and downspouts underneath the trim.
