Built the porch addition over an existing concrete slab with enclosed ceiling and added decorative posts with turned spindles and handrails, then painted to match the house trim. In all, the project costs ran $3900 for material, and took roughly 300 man-hours, and 8 cases of beer to build.

Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.
