With two small kids, it was time to make our backyard a little more inviting and less hazardous. I added new siding, four windows, deck, and doors have been added. With great help from a few friends, this renovation took us about a year.

View of the new deck. Three kitchen windows replaced a vinyl window and a rotten door. The windows are trimmed out with cedar deeper than normal because I added some rigid insulation for our cold kitchen.

Eight foot french doors with a small porch canopy replaced an original window. Four existing windows were refurbished. New cedar jambs, heads, and sill extensions were added to the existing windows to work with the new siding on vertical battens.

The porch columns were built in place over 4x4 wood posts and routed in place. We are in a historic neighborhood so the porch was designed to be sensitive to the context.
